During the 2008 - 2009 recession we saw a steady decline in economic activity around the united states and the world. There were mass layoffs as companies were trying to reorganize themselves leading to higher number of Americans seeking unemployment benefits to bridge their budget shortfalls.

Elm List was founded so that struggling families can get stuff they desperately needed that their neighbors were giving out for free or selling at a cheaper price.
